RRC - RARI Discord Bot Development

Author: @forexus

Date: September 9th, 2025

Abstract

I propose the development and sale of a feature-rich Discord bot as a premium product to enhance community engagement within the RARI ecosystem and beyond. Priced as a subscription-based / token gated service, the bot will generate revenue for the RARI Foundation, with a development and deployment budget of $60,000 USD to cover creation, rollout, and ongoing maintenance. The bot offers four key functionalities designed to drive user engagement and monetization:

  1. Role Assignment via Wallet Connection: The bot will assign Discord roles based on token or NFT ownership across any blockchain, verified through wallet connection. Users can specify an RPC URL, token address, and ownership requirements (e.g., holding more than one token or NFT).
  2. Virtual Token Pool for Engagement: The bot will manage a virtual token pool, rewarding users for Discord server activity. These tokens can be tipped to other users or withdrawn, with withdrawals subject to manual verification by bot administrators.
  3. Dashboard on RARI Foundation Subdomain: A dedicated dashboard on a RARI Foundation subdomain will allow eligible users to invite the bot to their Discord servers, manage roles, add chains, create token pool, check statistics, etc.
  4. Access Control and Monetization: Bot access will be granted to users staking 100–500 RARI tokens on the Rari Chain or through a monthly subscription, with revenue directed to the RARI Foundation treasury and potentially shared with Rarible. Access will be revoked if staking requirements are not maintained.

The RARI Foundation will oversee bot maintenance to ensure reliability and continuous improvement.

Motivation

In the Web3 landscape, Discord is a vital platform for community building. Assigning roles based on token or NFT ownership provides meaningful utility, fosters a sense of belonging, and boosts participation in Discord servers. This feature enhances the value of assets minted on Rarible, aligning with the RARI Foundation’s mission to empower creators and communities.

While solutions like Collab.Land and Matrica offer similar role-assignment capabilities, they lack the flexibility and integration proposed here. Our bot distinguishes itself by:

  • Supporting any blockchain via user-provided RPC URLs, ensuring broad compatibility.
  • Directly integrating with the RARI token and Rari Chain, reinforcing ecosystem adoption.
  • Offering a virtual token pool to incentivize engagement through tipping and rewards.
  • Generating treasury revenue through subscriptions and potential Rarible partnerships.

This proposal supports the RARI Foundation’s goals of fostering community engagement, promoting Rari Chain adoption, and creating sustainable revenue streams.

Funding Request

We request $60,000 USD to fund the development, deployment, and maintenance of the Discord bot. The budget is allocated as follows:

  • Development (55%): $33,000 for designing, coding, and testing the bot, including wallet-based role assignment, virtual token pool, and dashboard development.
  • Infrastructure and Deployment (25%): $15,000 for hosting the dashboard on a RARI Foundation subdomain, cloud services, and blockchain RPC integration.
  • Maintenance and Updates (20%): $12,000 for ongoing support, security updates, and feature enhancements to ensure long-term performance.

To ensure accountability and alignment with project progress, funding will be released in milestone-based payments upon DAO verification of deliverables (e.g., through progress reports, code repositories, or live demos). Milestones are tied to the Implementation Plan phases and include the following breakdowns:

Milestone Description and Deliverables Amount Released Tied to Budget Allocation Verification Criteria
Milestone 1: Project Kickoff and Initial Development (Upon DAO approval and setup) - Finalize project scope and team (internal or external developers). - Complete initial bot architecture design and core code for wallet-connected role assignment. - Set up development environment and provide a progress report with code repo access. $18,000 (30%) - $16,500 from Development - $1,500 from Infrastructure DAO review of design docs and initial code commit.
Milestone 2: Core Development Completion (End of Development Phase, ~3-4 months) - Fully implement virtual token pool, dashboard, and Rari Chain staking integration. - Conduct internal testing for blockchain compatibility and Discord functionality. - Deliver a beta version for limited testing and a detailed testing report. $24,000 (40%) - $16,500 from Development - $7,500 from Infrastructure DAO demo of working features and test results.
Milestone 3: Deployment and Launch (End of Deployment Phase, ~1 month after Milestone 2) - Launch dashboard on RARI subdomain. - Deploy bot to beta Discord servers. - Integrate access controls (staking/subscription) and provide deployment logs/report. $12,000 (20%) - $6,000 from Infrastructure - $6,000 from Maintenance DAO confirmation of live deployment and initial user feedback.
Milestone 4: Initial Maintenance and Optimization (3 months post-launch) - Apply security patches, performance optimizations, and initial feature updates based on feedback. - Monitor staking compliance and provide a 3-month performance report. $6,000 (10%) - $6,000 from Maintenance DAO review of update logs, metrics (e.g., uptime, user engagement), and community feedback.

This milestone structure ensures funds are disbursed progressively, reducing risk while incentivizing timely delivery. Total: $60,000 USD. Any unused funds per milestone will roll over or be refunded to the treasury. If developers are internal (RARI Foundation/Rarible), funding may be adjusted for cost efficiencies—open for DAO discussion.

This funding will enable the RARI Foundation to deliver a robust, user-friendly tool that drives community engagement and ecosystem growth.

Implementation Plan

  1. Development Phase (3–4 months):
  • Develop core functionalities: wallet-connected role assignment, virtual token pool, and dashboard.
  • Integrate Rari Chain staking verification and support for custom RPC URLs.
  • Conduct extensive testing to ensure compatibility with various blockchains and Discord environments.
  1. Deployment Phase (1 month):
  • Launch the dashboard on a RARI Foundation subdomain.
  • Deploy the bot to select Discord servers for beta testing.
  1. Maintenance and Growth (Ongoing):
  • Provide regular updates, security patches, and performance optimizations.
  • Monitor staking and subscription compliance.
  • Incorporate community feedback to enhance features.

Benefits to the RARI Foundation

  • Enhanced Community Engagement: The bot will increase participation in Discord servers, strengthening community ties and the utility of RARI tokens.
  • Revenue Generation: Subscription fees and potential revenue-sharing with Rarible will contribute to the RARI Foundation treasury.
  • Ecosystem Growth: By tying bot access to RARI staking, the proposal promotes adoption of the $RARI token and Rari Chain.
  • Competitive Differentiation: The bot’s support to read wallet inventory on any blockchain and assign roles accordingly, combined with its token pool and activity rewards, sets it apart from competitors like Collab.Land and Matrica.
  • New Product: The new Discord bot will deliver a high quality product that can be widely used in web 3 communities.

Conclusion

The proposed Discord bot will empower the RARI Foundation to build stronger communities, promote the Rari Chain, and establish a sustainable revenue model. With a funding request of $60,000 USD, we aim to deliver a cutting-edge tool that aligns with the Foundation’s vision and enhances the Web3 experience for Rarible Partners and users.

Points for Discussion

  • Subscription Fee based or $RARI token staked based The question here would be what the DAO would prefer.
  • External Developers or RARI Foundation / Rarible devs We have to discuss what the best and most optimal thing is to do once this proposal reaches enough support.
  • Funding Is the funding requests needed if the RARI Foundation is going to develop it theirselves?
  • Rarible API chains or any chain What would be most beneficial for the RARI Foundation and Rarible
  • Additional Features Open for discussion

We respectfully request the RARI Foundation DAO’s support for this proposal to drive innovation and value creation within the ecosystem.

Good to see a proposal focused on building something tangible for the ecosystem, while focusing on RARI utility. The RARI Chain integration and staking angle is a strong touch, and tying this to both engagement and potential revenue is a constructive direction. Looking forward to seeing it progress.

I don’t support this proposal right now.

I stopped using the Discord server some time ago because it wasn’t very active, and it doesn’t look like that has changed.

I’m also worried about the maintenance plan. 3 months is really short for a bot that probably won’t need changes in that time. What happens after that? The line about “DAO review of update logs, metrics” isn’t clear. And if there aren’t good reasons for people to keep supporting it, I don’t see how it will be maintained over time.

Before putting $60k into a Discord bot, it might be better to grow the community first so the bot would actually be useful.

Can you share some server metrics so we can talk about this with more info?

Hey gm @forexus

Thanks for putting this proposal up.

I just spent quite some time on Discord trying to really understand why this might be a good fit at this time, but I didn’t see any concrete reason. The way I see it, a Discord bot would be super helpful when there is a lot of activity and members joining the Discord regularly, which is not the case for us atm.

If we were talking about the Rarible Discord itself — with over 16k members — this proposal might have been a good fit. However, for the RARI FDN Discord, it doesn’t seem to be at this time. I will classify it as more of a want than a need.

Besides, I don’t see how this will create a sustainable revenue stream, as we might never even be able to recover the initial $60k commitment.

Thanks for putting this proposal together, @forexus. I think this is a really valuable idea for the ecosystem. Discord is where most of our community members actually live day-to-day, so having a bot that connects roles directly to wallet ownership while also tying utility back to $RARI feels like a smart way to strengthen both engagement and adoption.

I especially like the staking/subscription model since it not only encourages people to hold $RARI but also creates a small revenue stream for the treasury. The milestone-based funding approach also gives confidence that things won’t just be paid out and forgotten, it’s tied to actual progress.

That said, I’d be curious to hear a bit more about the long-term vision. For example, do you see this bot being offered widely outside of RARI Foundation servers as a product that brings in ongoing revenue, or is the main goal internal use? Also, if RARI Foundation’s own devs can take this on, maybe the budget could be trimmed or redirected.

Overall, I think this could be a strong addition to the ecosystem if executed well. Looking forward to hearing what others think about the subscription vs staking approach.

Thanks for the proposal @forexus, it is very well written and thought out.

I do however, have to say that I do not see a good return on investment given the cost of development. At nearly 55% of the cost of the Creator Fund, I just don’t see how the Discord bot will be a significant value add to the DAO or Rarible. I would be more supportive of the proposal if it were framed as a lower-cost experiment.

Thank you @Jaf , feedback is what I need.

I want to create a new product that can be sold, used by all the web 3 projects and compete with top competitors like Collab land. It needs to become that good, that users will prefere it over collab land. If a customer has no community there wouldn’t be much use to it  But for customers that do, it can be a gamechanger, especially if it offers their favourite blockchain. So in a nutshell, it won’t be for our discord servers in particular.

The funding of $60k might sound a lot but to deliver a product that’s working properly, taps in to a new market and can be used globally, it will be appropriate. I would prefer giving away the work to Rarible or the Rari Foundation itself, funding them to develop it internally. More then happy to cut the funding requests if we have a better view on the total costs. For $60k we can make 1 or 2 developers work for some time, thinking they would earn between $5000 and $10,000 a month. It won’t be salary based, more project based. Just to give an estimate.

We can also try to develop it ourselves from within the DAO, try to cut the costs.

Maintenance/ownership will be transferred to the Rari Foundation after that period. Rari Foundation operational budget could be used, especially if the bot is generating revenue.
What do you suggest yourself?

I would love to create a video to share my insights, or share my isnights with all of you in a call.
We’re working on an NFT project, the Mega Beers, where we also use token gated roles. Since there was no bot available that supports MegaETH, I created something simple myself in Python. Even when the bot was simple, it generated results closing in on 40% of the total members of the discord server picking up a token gated role. And that percentage is huge also when we think about the fact that people actually went to buy a token and/or NFT to acquire a role.

That’s why we will target web 3 communities that do have communities. It’s not being made for our discord servers, more like a product that will be very useful for web 3 projects with communities. It’s also a product that would fit in the RARI Ecosystem.

Collab Lands supports over 50k users, with an estimate of over 5k paid subscriptions. On top of that over 8 million wallets are connected. Give us a piece of that pie and it will become a profitable product. Especially with having in mind that our product will exceed the chains that Collab Land has to offer, simply by allowing users to add their own chains.

It’ll be more then open for discussion and will be adjusted according to the community feedback. please keep in mind we have to build a great product that will have to compete with Collab Land.

Thanks @forexus for bringing this forward and for all the clarifications you’ve shared. I see the appeal: a Discord bot that connects directly to $RARI and could even become a product for other communities. That’s a promising direction.

At the same time, I share some of the concerns raised by @WinVerse, @Jaf, and @Sixty. $60k feels like a big ask given how crowded this market already is (Collab.Land, Guild, Matrica), and some of the proposed features (“any chain” via RPC, token withdrawals) add more complexity and risk than we probably want at MVP stage.

One idea that crossed my mind: have you considered whether a partnership or whitelabel with an existing provider could get us to the same outcome faster and at lower cost? Curious to hear your thoughts on that path.

Implementing any chain would just be a matter of filling in a chains information in a form, contract address, role requirements, that information will be saved in a database. To run a check if a wallet holds an NFT you basicaly only need an RPC URL.

$60k is indeed a big ask, but we also have to realise that we have to hire a good developer that builds a great product. Would love to hear from @WinVerse, @Jaf and @Kaf_StableLab what a reasonable budget for this proposal would be.

The whole idea here is to build the product ourselves so we can create an additional revenue stream, it also fits perfectly within our ecosystem. Having a partnership with Collab Land might only result in providing a custom bot for our own discord servers.
Would love to hear about your partnership thoughts, how would that look like in your mind?
