Abstract

This proposal establishes the Rarible Creator Fund Program to incentivize high-value creators, brands, and projects to launch NFT drops on the Rarible FUN platform, driving revenue and ecosystem growth. The program requests $100,000 USD in $RARI tokens to provide grants of $2,500–$20,000 per creator, brand, or project. Grant applications will be curated by a working group comprising two RARI Foundation delegates, one RARI Foundation team member and Rarible’s VP of Growth. The program proposes a 10% Rarible revenue-sharing model from Rarible FUN drops by funded creators/brands/projects, with proceeds directed to the RARI DAO treasury. The initiative will operate under RARI Foundation and DAO oversight to ensure transparency and alignment with community goals.

Motivation

The RARI Foundation and Rarible Protocol aim to foster a decentralized, creator-centric NFT ecosystem. Attracting high-value creators, brands, and projects to Rarible FUN is critical to driving revenue, user engagement, and ecosystem adoption. Currently, there is no structured program to incentivize such creators to launch on Rarible FUN. The Rarible Creator Fund Program addresses this gap by providing financial grants to curated creators, ensuring high-quality NFT drops that align with Rarible’s vision. The 10% Rarible revenue-sharing model will strengthen the RARI DAO treasury, supporting future community initiatives and ensuring long-term sustainability. This program aligns with the RARI Foundation’s mission to empower creators and enhance the Rari ecosystem.

Specification

The Rarible Creator Fund Program will operate as follows:

  • Funding Allocation:
    • Total Request: $110,000 USD in $RARI tokens, disbursed at the prevailing market rate to a multisig wallet administered by the Rari Foundation. This includes a $10,000 USD buffer.
    • Grants of $2,500–$20,000 will be awarded from the $100,000 USD Rarible Creator Fund Program to 5–30 curated creators, brands, or projects launching NFT drops on Rarible FUN.
  • Curation Process:
    • A working group will review and select grant applicants, consisting of:
      • One RARI Foundation team member leading the working group (Anna).
      • Two RARI Foundation delegates (nominated via the RARI Foundation Forum).
      • Rarible’s VP of Growth (Jonathan Colon)
    • Selection criteria will include market influence, creative quality, alignment with Rarible’s brand, and potential to drive revenue on Rarible FUN. Criteria will be published on the RARI Foundation Forum for transparency and community feedback.
  • Revenue-Sharing Model:
    • 10% of Rarible revenue from Rarible FUN drops by Creator Fund participants will be directed to the RARI DAO treasury.
    • Revenue will be tracked transparently via Rarible and reported quarterly to the DAO.
  • Execution Plan:
    • Milestone 1 (Immediate - Months 1): Program Setup and Curation
      • Form the working group and finalize selection criteria.
      • Develop the application process and launch a marketing campaign to attract high-value creators.
      • Host a community feedback session on the RARI Foundation Forum or Discord Server to refine criteria and process.
    • Milestone 2 (Months 1-5): Grant Disbursement and Drop Facilitation
      • Disburse grants to 5–30 curated creators for NFT drops on Rarible FUN.
      • Implement the 10% Rarible revenue-sharing model and transfer proceeds to the DAO treasury.
      • Monitor and report initial drop performance to the DAO.
    • Milestone 3 (Months 6-8): Program Evaluation and Revenue Sharing
      • Evaluate program impact (e.g., revenue generated, user engagement, drop success).
      • Publish a final report with metrics and recommendations for future programs.
  • Governance and Oversight:
    • The working group will manage curation and grant disbursement, subject to RARI Foundation and DAO oversight.
    • Quarterly reports will detail grant recipients, drop performance, and revenue shared, posted on the RARI Foundation Forum.
    • Community feedback will be solicited via the Forum and Discord to ensure transparency and accountability.

Budget Breakdown:

  • Total: $110,000 USD in $RARI tokens sent to a multisig wallet administered by the RARI Foundation.
  • $10,000 USD in $RARI tokens as a buffer for price fluctuations.
  • 5-30 Grants ranging from $2,500 to $20,000 USD awarded to high profile creators/brands/projects

Rationale

The Rarible Creator Fund Program directly supports the RARI Foundation’s mission to empower creators and drive growth on Rarible FUN. By providing targeted grants, the program will attract high-value creators, increasing platform adoption and revenue. The 10% revenue-sharing model ensures a sustainable funding mechanism for the RARI DAO treasury, supporting future initiatives. The working group structure, combining Rarible expertise with RARI Foundation oversight, balances efficiency with decentralized governance. The milestone-based approach and transparent reporting align with RARI DAO’s preference for accountability, while community feedback ensures alignment with DAO priorities.

Risks and Mitigations

  • Risk: Insufficient participation from high-value creators.
Mitigation: Leverage Rarible’s network and a robust marketing campaign, with clear, community-vetted selection criteria to attract top-tier creators.
  • Risk: Revenue-sharing model underperforms.
Mitigation: Monitor drop performance in Milestone 2 and adjust grant sizes or curation criteria if needed, based on early results.
  • Risk: Lack of transparency in creator curation.
Mitigation: Publish selection criteria and grant recipient details on the RARI Foundation Forum, with quarterly updates and community feedback.

Voting Requirements

  • Proposal Submission: Requires 5,000 veRARI or 5000 stRARI tokens or delegate sponsorship depending on the governance model used.
  • Voting Process: The proposal will be posted on the RARI Foundation Forum for at least one week of community feedback, followed by an on-chain vote via Tally.
  • Cooldown Period: Includes a veto period for illegal or malicious proposals, as outlined in the RARI Foundation’s governance framework.

Next Steps

  • Revise the proposal based on community input and submit for Tally voting.
  • Engage delegates to secure 5,000 veRARI or 5000 stRARI sponsorship for proposal submission.
  • Upon approval, form the working group, initiate Milestone 1, and provide regular updates to the RARI DAO community via the Forum and Discord.

I like everything as planned for this creator fund program.

My only concern is not having enough marketing support to maximize the impact, independently of the creator’s reputation. IMO, every single recipient in this program should receive constant marketing support. This way, we help not-so-known creators to grow as well.

And, if we’re spending $110k on this program, we really need to put more effort into making it a huge success. This means marketing shouldn’t just be seen as a mitigation strateggy; it should be a core part of the program itself.

Thanks for the well-written proposal @forexus @jarisjames, I am supportive of this early draft. There are a few questions and recommendations I have, however:

  1. Just to make it clear, the 10% revenue sharing to the DAO will only apply to creators who receive grants from the creator fund?
  1. A suggestion here is that these two non-rarible / non-foundation seats be opened up to any interested party and not just delegates. Emphasis should be placed on candidates who have specific experience within the broader NFT ecosystem and creator circles, with the actual election carried out by forum vote as suggested.
  1. Apart from the curation by the specified working group, perhaps it might be a good option to allocate some funds to public curation. This could be done through onchain contests like JokeRace.
  1. Given the amount of funding requested, it would be nice to see some predefined KPIs or success metrics based on the motivation outlined in the proposal, namely:
  • A target for protocol revenue generated through the creator fund
  • Revenue generated per RARI / $ spent
  • A target / metric for user engagement / trading activity
  • A target / metric to measure ecosystem growth
  1. Finally, I would like to note that a proposal to fund creators should not just support art creation and attraction of high-value creators, but be engineered to stimulate trading on the platform, as that’s the only way it drives Rarible’s and the DAO’s revenue. So this should be addressed in some shape or form.

We’re not talking about 10% from creator proceeds, we really speak about 10% Rarible Revenue from Rarible FUN drops by Creator Fund participants. We’ll explain this again during the upcoming Governance Call, August 5th.

We need Rarible’s curational expertise, supervision from the RARI Foundation as well as a decentralized input from us delegates once we are going to curate these creators/projects/brands. The 2 spots will stay for the delegates, together the curation process will work
The working group proposal will follow and will be subject to feedback once we get this through Tally.

Love the idea, might be a better fit for the RRC-FUN: Rairble FUN Incentives proposal.

We can add KPI’s if you guys want
The idea is to award grants to attract high-value creators, projects and brands who bring their communities, sell out collections and generate massive secondary volume.
If you award a 20k Grant to someone to release a hyped up project on Rarible FUN, and that creator will do 20million USD in secondary volume (approx 6000 ETH) over a year, given the current fee structure from Rarible, it would already repay a good percentage of the program. And results like that is what we should be aiming for.
Anyway, will think of the KPI’s and get them ready before next tuesday

According to Alexander Salnikov, Rarible FUN’s launch will get accompanied by a RARI Reward program that addresses exactly this. (source: RRC-FUN)

A combined marketing effort from Rarible, Rari Foundation and the curated projects launching on Rarible FUN together with their communities should do the majority of the marketing needed.

Not-so-known creators might not be able to drive significant revenue, thats why this program might not apply too them. Whats the use of giving away grants to creators, projects or brands that will not generate results? The working group has to make sure the grant money is spent wisely.

Rarible can always help them in other ways.

We waved the idea of using quest platforms or spending any more money for marketing when we have the combination mentioned above. I hope this makes sense. Correct me if I am wrong, we’re more then open for constructive feedback.

This appears to be a well timed proposal. The Rarible FUN has promise, but it will be difficult to gain real traction without reputable creators publishing top-tier pieces. This fund provides a clear path to attracting creators and increasing platform visibility and investment.

The 10% back to the DAO treasury is a remarkable detail. That measure ensures sustainability and illustrates long-term vision.

I appreciate that the working group includes a mix of Foundation and community representatives. My only worry is that the selection process is transparent and the criteria are clear from the outset. I’ll be curious to see who is brought on
