Grant proposal - Decentralized curated storefront
by @ibelick & @smoogy
TLDR
We believe in a next generation of platform where users will be curators. We are looking to get funding to develop a working proof of concept and a platform for a curated storefront backed by the Rarible Protocol.
Our goal is to create an open-source POC allowing anyone to deploy a curated storefront (phase-1). Followed by the development of a curated playlist platform using the same tech (phase-2). We see an opportunity to build a music NFTs platform on top of the Rarible protocol just like Catalog used Zora protocol.
Problems / Opportunities
-
Allowing anyone to create a curated storefront easily
-
Decentralized curation will help to promote artists and create a diverse art ecosystem
-
It’s not an easy and pleasant experience to discover new web3 artists. In the end, whether it’s web2 or web3, we want to discover and support artists doing music we like.
-
Curation on platforms like Spotify is centralized, we want to give the opportunity to any talented curators to create playlists on our platform and get rewarded.
Our vision for the phase 2 of this project is a platform allowing artists, curators, music lovers to come together around curated playlists. A place to discover music you love and find artists you want to support. A place for curators to earn money for their work.
Funding Milestones and Payments
We are looking for $40,000k allowing us (2 people) to work full-time on this project for 2-months.
Milestones & payments:
Phase 1: $20,000k / Delivery date: Feb 30th
Build a curated storefront allowing tokens holders to vote for collectibles listed on the store. The main goal here is to create/integrate a governance tool directly into the store. We open-source it, writing and providing documentation for anyone to fork it.
MVP architecture (image)
We also plan to deploy a platform, allowing existing spaces on Snapshot to directly access their storefront by visiting an url curatedstore.xyz/xxxxx.eth
It could be a way for any spaces on Snapshot to start a curated storefront super easily.
Phase 2: $20,000k / Delivery date: March 30th
Build a curated playlists platform as an experiment using what we built previously. A platform allowing artists, curators, music lovers to come together around curated playlists. A place to discover music you love and find artists you want to support. A place for curators to earn money for their work. The record store 3.0.

Use of funds

Business Model
We are exploring various ways of bringing revenue through the curated playlists platform. A few ideas are:
- Allowing artists to mint/sell on the platform, and taking a fee
- Launch of a token used for governance and rewarding contributors

Accountability
Our project will attend weekly community calls, and provide updates on our milestones as we make progress. In the event that we can’t fulfill our commitment, funds will be returned to Rarible DAO. We will also work with community members to ensure updates are distributed through the Rarible communication channels.
We will keep a Notion updated on a regular basis allowing anyone to check at any time our progress!
Why should Rarible DAO fund this?
-
We will use the Rarible Protocol to increase its usage of it.
-
There is an opportunity for Rarible to be associated with a curated playlist platform just like Catalog is using the Zora protocol. We expect music NFTs to boom in 2022. By funding this project Rarible could benefit from this exposure.
