Final draft, Proposal to support the "Return to Form" Group drop and Gallery event

Proposal Title: “Return to Form” Gallery and Group Drop

Author: 0xJoe on behalf of Burrito DAO

Date: Oct. 22nd

Abstract

This proposal is to support the Burrito Group drop on Rarible by providing funding for a Gallery event In Manhattan NYC. The Gallery will exhibit all of the works from participating Artists who list their work on Rarible during our Group drop.

Motivation

Burrito DAO has successfully facilitated multiple group drops, Multiple in person gallery events across the US, and we want to do our next Group drop on Rarible and have it paired with an in person event with the help of the Rarible Foundation.

A Group Drop is when a curator coordinates and communicates with anywhere from 5 to 50 or more artists to all list their artwork on the same platform with a shared theme and a shared method of sale.

The goal is to create a moment in time to celebrate all of the artists participating and to help each artist’s audience cross pollinate with one another.

Our hope is that hosting a group drop on Rarible will inspire others to coordinate in the same way with Rarible. We also hope to bring attention to Rari DAO and how artists can benefit from the DAO. We want to increase the ammount of Artists who consider the upside of being able to utilize the Rari DAO when considering which platform to use for their future collections and drops.

Proposal details

Roles and responsibilities

Curation, I am in the midst of reaching out 1 on 1 to over 50 artists to participate in the group drop.

Coordinate with all the artists so they’re on the same page and can commit to their responsibility of providing artwork.

I’m currently corresponding with team members from the Rarible team and Jonathan from Rarible will assist us in contact the team of the network we ultimately decide to partner with in order to have multiple organizations promoting the drop.

Promotional materials will be created by Burrito and shared with Rarible, The Network we ultimately partner with, and Manifold.

When the Artwork has all been supplied we’ll make the final call on which network to utilize. We’ve narrowed our options down to Shape & Base.

Securing a Venue, I’ve secured a venue in Manhattan from a venue partner I’ve worked with before named Lume Studios. Lume Studios is know for having crypto art events and working closely with lots of artists who live in New York.

Formatting the Artwork for Screens.

Timeline

I’ve already reached out to 40+ artists and started the initial coordination and curation process.

We’ve finalized the Date and Venue.

We’ll be exploring additional funding opportunities to help improve the event.

By November 1st We’ll be expecting Artwork to be finalized.

By November 1st we’ll have started the Marketing campaign. Initially by announcing Rarible as A partner and going from there.
Once the Proposal passes we will announce the Support of the Rari Foundation as well.

The Event and Rarible drop will occur before December 1st.

Budget

Venue $4,500 - Lume Studios NYC, Short walk from Canal St. Station which is a major stop in Southern Manhattan.

Beverages $300 - Water, Juice, seltzers.

Signage $200 - Stand up banner.

Cushion $250 - A Cushion in the budget to cover any additional costs for beverages, transporting additional screens, or supplies for additional activations from artists.

Compensation $500 Curation, Artist Coordination & Relations, Event Coordination, Grant Writing.

Total $5,750

Promotion

The main promotion will be to our audience of attendees to our previous events, our Twitter, and discord audiences. For Example we will start off the RSVP by inviting every RSVP we had during the NFT NYC Event. So upon the initial completion of the RSVP We will have invited the nearly 400 attendees who RSVP to our last event.

We have spoke with Jonathan Colón from Rarible to help us promote the drop and event from Rarible’s socials. Jonathan will also be helping me ask for additional promotional support from Shape(Or Base) and Manifold.

Compensation

I am leading all administrative work for the event and the Art drop.

To elaborate further I have personally invited 50 artists via direct out reach based on my own taste and recommendations from trusted Artists and Collectors.

For Artist Coordination I have created a group chat that currently has 35 artists who have committed to participating in the drop so far. I will be creating the minter contract and documentation on how to Mint on Shape via our Manifold contract and list on Rarible.

Event coordination means I’m the one speaking, negotiating, and requesting quotes from several venue owners.

I’ve also written the Grant contacted Rarible and Delegates like Forexus which is the work and responsibilities I account for under the title Grant Writer, as well as replying to these questions.

In addition I’m handling all of the partnerships and marketing responsibilities. Including managing partnerships with Rarible and the Network partner we choose. As well as writing all the copy for Social Media Marketing.
Lastly, I’m responsible for creating and sharing around the RSVP with our previous attendees and the artist and collector audience base that based out of NYC.
We have volunteers to help with a few things like Videography and graphics for social media posts as well as Artists who will attend the event and provide extra hands while executing the event.

Proposal Goals

My conservative target is for cumulative sales to total over 1 ETH.

100% of the artists minting will be using Rarible on Shape for the first time since we’re aiming to be launch partners.

My conservative Minimum RSVP estimate would be 50.

Lastly, I estimate at least 10% of the Artists in the drop will go on to try and leverage the creator fund or Rarible DAO to empower their Artwork. One of my biggest goals is to have Artists consider the ability to work with the DAO or apply to the creator fund when they’re deciding which platform to list there artwork on in the future.

Good proposal, but I have a few questions after reading it.

  1. Is the drop on Rarible done with artists who have already been dropped on a chain or with new Web2 artists who join and go through the entire process?
  2. What’s the basis of this collaboration? How does this help or amplify Rari at this point?
  3. You mentioned that 35 artists are committed to this, but do you have a maximum or minimum number of artists? Because I understand the plan is to raise 1 ETH. Is this something that can be achieved in one night, or will the gallery keep the works for more than a day?
  1. All artists that are a part of this drop have sold tokenized art before. The majority of the artists do not solely sell work in tokenized artwork.

  2. This helps amplify Rari in multiple ways. First, Rari’s support of the group drop and event will signal to the Artists that Rarible is willing to help support artists and artist initiatives.

My main goal is for artists to understand the appeal of listing artwork on Rarible and how artists can justify the platform fee.

When an artist is deciding where to mint and how to justify the fees the platform earns they consider what platform will support them, and this initiative and collaboration is a large signal and a giant green flag to artists, art collectives, and art collectors showing that Rarible and Rari foundation support Artists. The initiative will hopefully act as a blueprint for other Artists, Art collectives, and Art collectors to utilize Rarible and the Rari Foundation to get support for their projects and initiatives.

Rari’s foundation has the ability for artist to directly apply for Grants. Which is unique and a massive benefit to artists. This event brings attention to the drop on Rarible and it sets an important example of why artists should choose Rarible over other platforms.

Artists often look at where ever their peers are having success currently when they’re deciding which platform to list on. Increasing the attention to this drop with an event should cause other artists to utilize Rarible if they see this drop as a Success. Lastly I hope other artist collectives will be encouraged to utilize Rarible in a similar way based on the attention, and support that Rarible and the Rari Foundation provides to this initiative.

  1. The Event itself is 1 day pop up exhibition and not a gallery. The artworks will mainly be shown on screens unlelss the Artists are in New York.

We’ll discuss features that Rarible could implement in the future to assist collectives in facilitating sales during the event itself, but the main goal of the event is to bring a large amount of support and attention to the drop and to give an example of what can be done if you leverage all that Rarible and the Rari Foundation have to offer.

To clarify, The goal I set is to gross 1 ETH in Sales total with each artist. Each artist will be listing a 1/1 artwork for a Buy it now price. This means it will likely be a multi-week online campaign from Burrito DAO to help these artworks sell. The 1 ETH figure is different than either Burrito DAO or Rari earning Fees.

As of now 36 artists have committed. Last night and this morning I’m checking in with each artist to see where they’re are at. So far None of the 36 artists have said they’ll need more time than currently allotted or walked back their commitment. Out of the 17 Artists who have replied to check in already, 8 Artists have already finished their artwork. The other 9 said they’re still on track for the initial deadline of Nov. 1st. There will most likely be 0 impact to planning if any artists need a few additional days to finish their artwork.

So I would say Minimum is 15 artists participate, expectation is at least 20 artist participating, maximum is 50.

Thanks for sharing the final draft. I love the idea to this being a great way to drive awareness of the value of Rarible and show our support for artists on and off chain.

This is a cost efficient brand development investment by the DAO. I appreciate the time and detail put into it as well as the discussion by all.

I look forward to voting for this.
